The John Wick world of gold coins, dog corpses, and bullet-filled brains is expanding again. Already headed to television with a series that is explicitly not about John Wick, now it’s also being grown with a spinoff that bears absolutely no relation to the Wick series at all.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate just won a bidding war for Ballerina, a script from 23-year-old screenwriter Shay Hatten. Ballerina is said to be a “pulpy, hyper-stylized” action story focused on a female assassin hunting down the killers who murdered her family. But, to be clear, it currently has nothing at all to do with John Wick. Lionsgate is apparently hoping to change that, though. It’s said their idea is to retrofit the script into what would be the first film in an expanded Wick universe. In other words, this is a John Wick film in as much as the new guy your mom married is your dad. And you will never be my father, Todd. Never!
