From Benh Zeitlin’s Wendy, to Joe Wright’s Pan, going back to Steven Spielberg’s Hook, there’s no shortage of Peter Pan movies from acclaimed modern directors. What there hasn’t been is a Peter Pan movie from an acclaimed director who also had the Disney stamp of approval to redo their animated take—little green outfit and all.
Until now, that is. Have a look: it’s the trailer for Disney’s Peter Pan & Wendy.
Co-written and directed by The Green Knight’s David Lowery, the film sees the Pete’s Dragon director return to both Disney-contracted Peters and viridescence with a live-action adaptation of the 1953 classic. Newcomer Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson (young Black Widow of Black Widow) star in the title roles, with Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi as Tinkerbell, Jude Law as Captain Hook, Jim Gaffigan as Mr. Smee, and the Walt Disney Company as a Lost Boy forever trapped in its juvenile years, blessed and cursed to just keep repeating its youth and endlessly fight pirates.
Despite the promising talent behind the camera, Peter Pan & Wendy has been sent to the never-theatrical land of streaming. It hits Disney+ April 28.
