
With Universal’s Dracula Untold leaving everyone wishing it had been left untold, and now unspoken of, the studio is taking their Dracula series in a radical new direction: to present day, and not about Dracula anymore.
According to Variety, Rocketman‘s Dexter Fletcher has signed on to direct Renfield, a film centered on the Count’s titular lackey. In the original novel, R. M. Renfield was a 59-year-old insane asylum inmate who falls under the spell of Dracula and his blood-chugging bro culture. It’s not yet clear what Rick & Morty and Community writer Ryan Ridley’s take is, but hopefully nothing good. The Renfield that is Universal failed us, and they deserve to be punished:
