The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is, at this point, more true to the original Star Wars spirit than the actual Star Wars franchise. It’s got the space-faring roguish handsome in an argumentative relationship with both his more competent main squeeze and his animal co-pilot; it has an Ewoks-style animated spin-off about the cutest creature; it has a campy late-’70s special; and now it also has a holiday special to remind us that, hey, we don’t need to take these space operatics all that seriously. Have a look with the trailer for Marvel Studios’ Special Presentation: The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
Coming in at a casual 40 minutes, James Gunn’s one-off seems to focus on Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Drax (Dave Bautista) giving Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) the gift that keeps on screaming: Star-Lord’s beloved Footloose star, Kevin Bacon (Kevin Bacon).
It should be fun! And if not, who cares? Again, no need to seriously care about this bullshit at all. That’s the true spirit of Christmas/Star Wars.
Marvel Studios’ Special Presentation: The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special hits Disney+ November 25.
