In these uncertain times where corporations are fighting with each other to spend another million or two on something, HBO has won the latest battle. According to Deadline, they beat out 16 other bidders to pay a low seven-figures for the screen rights to The Vanishing Half, the latest novel from Brit Bennett. Released last month and currently on the New York Times bestseller list, the story sees “the lives of twin sisters who run away from a Southern black community at age 16 diverge as one returns and the other takes on a different racial identity but their fates intertwine.” HBO plans to adapt the story into a limited series that’s definitely getting some Emmys.
