Hugh Laurie is returning to his beloved role of grumbling a throaty American accent on television. He’s reportedly signed on to star in Avenue 5, Veep creator Armando Ianucci’s upcoming HBO series. Seemingly a play on Star Trek, the comedy will see Laurie in the role of “Ryan Clark, the charming and in-control American captain” of the titular starship. While the rest of the cast has yet to be announced, how disappointing is it going to be if Veep and In the Loop‘s Zach Woods is too busy with Silicon Valley to play the ship’s android science officer?
