Robert De Niro may make his return to the worlds of stupidly-tattooed psychopaths and stand-up comics. The actor is reportedly in talks to join one of those multiple Joker movies we have going—this being the one Joaquin Phoenix is starring in, not the one or two Jared Leto is doing. Given that this is the Joker movie that listed Martin Scorsese among its producers, it sort of makes sense, but confusingly, he’s not longer mentioned in this latest casting news report. Regardless, De Niro is playing an ’80s talk show host partially responsible for creating Joker (a scoffing Johnny Carson or something?). Todd Phillips is directing from a script he co-wrote with The Fighter‘s Scott Silver. Phoenix will be hitting the pancake makeup to shoot this September.
