A queen-centric period satire from The Favourite co-writer Tony McNamara, and featuring Nicholas Hoult as a dolt of a dandy, The Great is pretty clearly a pared down version of Yorgos Lanthimos’s 2018 awards hit—made for Hulu and with a cast lacking two additional impressive lead actresses. The Great just gives us Elle Fanning as Catherine the Great, but hey, The Favourite Lite still sounds like a better description than a lot of streaming content, so we’ll give it a shot when it hits Hulu May 15.
