The original Ghostbusters is getting another sequel—from Jason Reitman

Thirty years since playing the ungrateful little yuppie larva that says “my dad says you guys are full of crap,” Jason Reitman will once again be the rich offspring in a Ghostbusters movie.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Reitman revealed plans to pick up where father Ivan left off with a direct sequel to 1989’s Ghostbusters II. The director already has a script he co-wrote with Monster House director Gil Kenan, and plans are to shoot in a few months for a summer 2020 release.

“This is the next chapter in the original franchise,” Reitman said. “It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.” A present day when New York must live with the knowledge that the Statue of Liberty can be hijacked with an NES Advantage.

Following their Spider-Man model, Sony remains in production on an animated Ghostbusters alongside this abrupt course correction of a franchise follow-up.

UPDATE: There’s also this teaser that doesn’t really look much like the old movies at all.
