Weekend Box Office: Avengers: Infinity War somehow holds down Overboard remake

At the box office, plucky little Avengers: Infinity War again proved it’s worth taking a chance on the long-promised culmination of a decade of blockbuster superhero efforts. Marvel’s latest took in another $112 million domestically over the weekend, becoming the fastest film to hit the billion-dollar mark worldwide. That meant the second spot went to the just-released Overboard, the remake of Overboard someone inexplicably made. A Quiet Place sunk to third with $7.6 million, I Feel Pretty dropped to fourth with $4.9 million, and Rampage rounded out the top five with $4.6 million. Tully, the uneven new release from the Young Adult team, had to settle for a $3.1 million sixth place debut.

Next week: the Melissa McCarthy comedy Life of the Party goes up against the Gabrielle Union vehicle Breaking In. Both are about mom doing some pretty insane stuff, so, with Mother’s Day coming up, it would seem each has an equal chance of definitely still losing to Infinity War.
