Weekend Box Office: Disney’s got a bad feeling about Solo

Well, it was Memorial Day over the long weekend, but it seems many forgot to celebrate the memory of the fallen General Solo. While Solo: A Star Wars Story easily nabbed the top spot at the box office, its actual numbers fell well short of expectations and must be having Disney worried they’ve already stretched their Expanded Universe dangerously thin. The four-day estimates for the film are giving it a $103 million domestic gross; by comparison, Rogue One had made over $172 million over the same period, and that’s without the benefit of an established character. The just-announced Boba Fett movie is surely not looking like such a good idea anymore. Especially when, come on, have these Disney suits not seen these Obi-Wan movie memes? The internet is thirsty for Ewan.

Anyway, it was all nerd crap at the top of the charts, with Deadpool 2 and Avengers: Infinity War rounding out the top three. Book Club scored a counter-programmed fourth place, with Life of the Party falling in at fifth.

This weekend: look for Action Point, Adrift, and Upgrade to be other things that come out. You could see them!
