Remember long ago, before anyone heard the phrase “Morbin’ time,” and instead we heard that Jared Leto would star in a new Tron movie? Well, there’s a new director attached, and they’re gonna shoot that thing this summer.
While Lion director Garth Davis was previously set to helm the film, Deadline brings word that now Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales director Joachim Rønning is nearing a deal to make it a turkey of soulless Disney sequels. With a script already in the bag from his Pirates writer, Jeff Nathanson, the plan is to jump into production by August without even first telling us whether Daft Punk is involved.
Titled Tron: Ares, the film would focus on Leto’s titular Ares, a new character inside the Grid. Talks may not work out, though, as it would require the 51-year-old Leto to enter something born in the ‘80s.
