Monty Python’s Spamalot to become redundant movie

With Monty Python’s Spamalot selling out Broadway and West End theaters, and winning a Tony for Best Musical, you gotta wonder… why isn’t this thing a movie!?

Well, big news: now it will be.

According to Deadline, the long-developing adaptation of the adaptation of Monty Python and the Holy Grail is now moving forward at Paramount. Casey Nicholaw, who choreographed the original Broadway run, is attached to direct from a script by Spamalot writer and original Python Eric Idle. The project is being fast-tracked, with casting beginning soon for a shoot later this year.

It’s not like bringing a comedy-classic-turned-musical full circle has ever produced a forgettable, pointless commercial failure before, right?
