Look, maybe it’s a bit of pandemic cynicism setting in, but this trailer for Raya and the Last Dragon is some of the most obnoxiously glib crap Disney has ever churned. “From the studio that brought you Moana and Frozen“—in case anyone is unaware that those are from the Walt Disney Company—comes a new over-manufactured product, familiar down to its subtlest beats. It is, generously, “heavily informed” by so many already-popular things it’s barely worth bringing them up. Hundreds of people poured their sincere efforts into it, and this animated stillbirth may as well have been pushed out by an AI. The Raya and the Last Dragon trailer deserves to be given no shell, as is hilariously said.
But hey, this is just the teaser! Maybe the full trailer will be great! Maybe everything is fine! Maybe this will actually come out in March! Who knows!
