Ruben Fleischer becomes latest director saddled with Uncharted gig

At this point, it’s not even worth looking into how long Sony has tried and failed to start production on an Uncharted movie, or how many directors they’ve attached and lost along the way. Suffice to say, it’s been a long time—long enough that Mark Wahlberg, once signed on to play the lead, is now playing the elder mentor figure. And with enough directors that it’s not in anyone’s best interest to bother listing nor reading them here.

But is the hunt for the fabled treasure not the adventure of Uncharted?*

Anyway, yet another director is apparently close to signing on to this thing. According to Deadline, now the video game adaptation will be helmed by Ruben Fleischer, director of the Zombieland franchise and three other things that—like Uncharted‘s lost directors—are not even worth listing. (Hint: one was Venom)

Should he sign on, Fleischer—who, alright, also somehow sunk the chemistry of La La Land into the immediately forgotten Gangster Squad—would be taking over from Bumblebee director Travis Knight. Though Knight only took on the job four months ago before dropping out soon after, Holland has now been attached for nearly four years. Remember to congratulate him on his anniversary in May, when Uncharted is scheduled to definitely still not be shooting.

*I have not actually played Uncharted and have no idea whether this is true. It seems like that kind of thing, though.
