We’ve had numerous false starts on a Party Down revival since the series’ premature cancellation in 2010. Last we heard about it was nine months ago, when Starz gave the go-ahead for a six-episode return, with creators John Enbom, Rob Thomas, Dan Etheridge, and Paul Rudd set to return as executive producers, with Enbom set as showrunner. The thing is, even then Thomas said, “The cast is so busy these days that finding a window where we can do it may require trigonometry”—which was basically saying, “We’ll see if it actually happens.”
But apparently it is!
According to Deadline, Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Ken Marino, Martin Starr, Ryan Hansen, and Megan Mullally have closed deals to star in the new, abbreviated season of the cult comedy. Here’s that caveat, though: Lizzy Caplan, like Jane Lynch before her, is now out of the show. She’s said to be busy shooting Fleishman Is in Trouble, an FX and Hulu series that will almost certainly not be as beloved as Party Down. But here we are, beholden to these caterers, and we will gobble up what we’re given.
