It’s been 40 years since Mel Brooks’s History of the World, Part I closed with the promise that History of the World, Part II was “coming soon.” Yet, like its promise that we’d see Hitler figure skate, it was but a joke.
Or was it?
It 100% was. But now it’s not, because Brooks has made a deal with Hulu to actually do it.
According to Variety, the iconic writer-director has signed on to give us an eight-episode adaptation of his already-episodic mock-history mock-sequel. Don’t worry, though: we aren’t going to make a 95-year-old carry everything since the French Revolution on his back alone. Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, Ike Barinholtz, David Stassen, and Kevin Salter are said to be writing and executive producing alongside Brooks.
It seems one thing that isn’t “history” is Mel Brooks! But, again, he is very old, so don’t go in looking for a second season of this thing.
